هدفت الدراسة إلى مناقشة موضوع بعنوان التدهور البيئي في الوطن العربي، وتكونت الدراسة من عدة محاور، تناول المحور الأول المقاربة بين القضايا البيئية، حيث سعى إلى التعرف على المشكلات والمحددات والعواقب والاستجابات والآثار البيئية في الصحة العامة. وأوضح المحور الثاني محركات التبدل والتدهور في البيئة وهي نضوب الموارد وندرتها وتزايد النزعة الاستهلاكية وخراب وتدهور البيئة المباشر المرتبط بالنزاعات أو الفساد أو الاستخدام من دون تحمل مسئولية. وكشف المحور الثالث عن الظروف البيئية وتحديات الاستدامة والصحة العامة، مثل ندرة المياه والحصول على المياه والإصحاح، والموارد الأرضية، والتنوع الحيوي وموارد الرزق، وجودة الهواء والغازات المسببة للاحتباس الحراري، والفضلات الصلبة، والظروف البيئية والأقاليم الفرعية كبلدان الخليج، وآثار تدهور البيئة وندرة الموارد في سبل العيش والصحة العامة. وتطرق المحور الرابع إلى إطار السياسات للعمل البيئي. وأبرز المحور الخامس الأطراف الفاعلة التقليدية والجديدة في البيئة. ثم انتقل المحور السادس إلى أمثلة عن برامج وأنشطة بيئية منها تحديات التصدي لندرة وجودة المياه، والنجاح في إنقاص استهلاك المواد المستنفِدة للأوزون، والتضارب بين الدولة والمجتمع المدني حول تدبير الفضلات الصلبة. وسلط المحور السابع الضوء على قياس الأداء البيئي للبلدان العربية. وأسهم العنصر الثامن في توضيح دور الصحة العامة. وأكدت النتائج على أن الحالة البيئية في الوطن العربي مرعبة، مع تهديدات هائلة تتعلق بالاستدامة حول القدرة المستقبلية لدى سكان المنطقة في البقاء على قيد الحياة. كُتب هذا المستخلص من قِبل دار المنظومة 2018
The study aimed at discussing the subject of environmental degradation in the Arab world. The study consisted of several topics. The first topic dealt with the approach in the environmental issues, which sought to identify the problems, determinants, consequences, responses and environmental impacts in public health. The second topic explained the engines of change and deterioration in the environment, the depletion and scarcity of resources and increasing consumerism and the destruction and degradation of the immediate environment related to conflicts, corruption or usage without taking responsibility. The third topic revealed the environmental conditions and challenges of sustainability and public health, such as water scarcity, access to water and sanitation, land resources, biodiversity and livelihoods, air quality, greenhouse gases, solid waste, environmental conditions and sub-regions such as the Gulf countries, the effects of environmental degradation and scarcity of resources for livelihoods and public health. The fourth topic addressed the policy framework for environmental action. The fifth topic highlighted traditional and new actors in the environment. The sixth topic moved to examples of environmental programs and activities, including the challenges of facing the scarcity and quality of water, and the success in reducing the consumption of ozone-depleting substances, and the conflict between the State and civil society on solid waste management. The seventh topic shed light on the measurement of the environmental performance of the Arab countries. The eighth topic contributed to clarifying the role of public health.
