المستخلص: This study deals with the issue of takhsis al-‘am in Islamic Jurisprudence during the time of the Companions. The significance of this particular issue lies in the fact that the Companions were the first generation of Muslims who witnessed the revelation and this makes them the best to understand and interpret it. Apart from discussing the terms used in this study, the paper also analyzes the methods used by the Companions to interpret takhsis al- ‘am based on six controversial issues disputed amongst them. It is found that the Companions have also utilized the use of Prophetic traditions in accepting takhsis al-‘am in the Quran, and their methods of understanding it are also important as guidelines for Muslims to solve issues of similar nature.
