كانت أول دراسة أكاديمية لتخصص المكتبات والمعلومات على المستوى العالمي في سنة 1887م، عن طريق الباحث الأمريكي ميلفيل ديوي، وبعد ذلك بحوالي ستين سنة قامت أول دراسة أكاديمية للتخصص في العالم العربي، وأول معهد للوثائق والمكتبات، وتوالت بعد ذلك ظهور الأكاديميات المختلفة للتخصص في مختلف جامعات الوطن العربي، ومع تواجد المهنة تواجد أساتذة تخصص المكتبات والمعلومات والذين ساهموا في بناء مقررات ومناهج التدريس، وقاموا بضبط المعايير المتخصصة في أقسام المكتبات بالجامعات الجزائرية. إن مهنة المعلومات والمكتبات المعاصرة، ومهنة أساتذة التخصص تخطو خطوات واسعة للأمام، فهي لم تعد مهنة الأعمال الروتينية والكتابية البسيطة، وإنما مهنة تعتمد على التحكم واستخدام نظم وأساليب جديدة تسعى لتطلعات ومستقبل مهم بمشاريعه لتخصص علم المكتبات والمعلومات. وقد أصبحت التكنولوجيا الحديثة، جزءا لا يتجزأ من تخصص علم المكتبات، مع ظهور التقنيات الحديثة، وتطوراتها المتلاحقة أصبحت الحاجة ملحة لوضع مناهج دراسية علمية جديدة، تتماشى مع المستوى العلمي والتكنولوجي لجامعاتنا، وتتماشى مع المستوى العلمي والتكويني لأساتذة التخصص، ومن ما سبق طرحنا الإشكالية التالية: ما هو واقع ومستقبل الأساتذة الجامعيين بمختلف رتبهم وبمختلف درجاتهم العلمية بالجامعات الجزائرية؟.
