تتناول هذه الدراسة خدمات الوثائق بأنواعها المختلفة الإدارية والفنية التي تنتجها أو تتلقاها، أو تلك الأرشيفية التاريخية التي تحتفظ بها المكتبات باعتبارها ضمن مجموعات تاريخية أرشيفية، مع المقارنة الموضوعية بين الخدمات التي تحتاج إليها هذه الوثائق، وما تحتاج إليه باقي مصادر المعلومات التي تعودت المكتبات علـى اقتنائها كالكتب والمواد المطبوعة والمخطوطة والمسموعة والمرئية وغير ذلك من المقتنيات المكتبة ، كمـا تعرض الباحث إلى أنواع المستفيدين الذين يمكن أن يتعاملوا مع هذه المصادر الوثائقية في المكتبات العامـة في المملكة العربية السعودية، وقد توصل الباحث إلى عدد من النتائج أهمها أن جميع أنواع الوثائق المحفوظة بالمكتبات العامة سواء لأغراض إدارية أو فنية أو تاريخية تحتاج إلى إجـراء مشـروعات فنيـة متكاملـة للأرشفة الإلكترونية على مستوى المملكة، كما أن أكدت النتائج على أهمية دور مركز الوثائق والمحفوظات الوطني في رعاية وثائق المكتبات العامة.
