المستخلص: The thesis is a study of an important personality, that is (Ferya Stark and her Political and Social affect on Iraq) who left a clear fingerprints on the relationship of Great Britain and the Arab countries, especially Iraq. Ferya Stark (1893-1993) was an explorer, writer, occasional archeologist, geographer and unofficial diplomat . She traveled, alone, where she pleased , and let other’s ‘timidity keep her from achieving her goals . She was one of the most gifted and widely women travel writers of 20th century , whose life spanned two world wars , debilitating illness , a 5-year marriage , countless expeditions to Arab countries and the Orient , central Asia , Turkey , Persia , and a series of books and collections of writings in which she described her life and times . Owing to the long life of Stark and her various activities in many countries in the Middle East , we choose her political and social affect on Iraq as a subject of M. A. thesis in contemporary history of Iraq . The thesis consists of five chapters, an introduction and a conclusion. Chapter One is a study of (the biography of Freya Stark and her intellectual making 1893-1993), Chapter Two tackles (the political situations in Iraq as seen by Freya Stark), Chapter Three studies (Freya Stark role in freedom brotherhood societies and dissolving of Nazi influence in Iraq) , Chapter Four focuses on (Freya Stark views on the social situations in Iraq), and Chapter Five discusses (Freya Stark books and her writing style) .

A number of conclusions have been reached during the study , the most important of which are : 1- The decision to study Arabic in 1921 led to increase Stark’s interest to the Orient and its civilizations . and a period at the London School of Oriental Studies gave her a more thorough grounding of the Arabic language she was to use for many years . 2- Her knowledge of English, Latin , French and German helped her feel at ease while traveling across the Eastern Mediterranean and Asian continent . 3- Freya Stark came to the Orient to achieve her desire to Journey and travel . 4- Stark’s interest of Iraq and her first visit to it in 1929 was connected with her personal interest of Arab countries and the civilizations of the Middle East . 5- She left clear fingerprints on the history of Iraq during the thirties and forties by her political and social activities of the Iraqi affairs , in addition to her historical and intellectual achievements on the history and civilization of Iraq . 6- The great contribution of Stark during the second world war was her activities in establishing the (Freedom Brotherhood Society) during the second world war to serve the British interest in the Arab countries and dissolve the Nazi influence in Yemen , Egypt and Iraq . 7- Stark had a various relations with some Iraqi politicians , such as Ja’fa Al-Askari , Nuri Said , besides her contacts with Iraqi society . She described some aspects of Iraqi life in the first half of the 20th century . 8- Stark activities in Iraq and some Arab countries connected with her serving of British interests , but these activities served also some aspects of Iraqi history and culture . 9- Many of Stark activities had some spying goals to serve British colonial interests in the Middle East and Iraq , such as her work in the (Freedom Brotherhood Society) .
