This study aimed at investigating some textual and stylistic problems encountered in translating Arabic into English. The data were culled from official letters, memos, meeting minutes, speeches, decisions of councils and committees in academic institutions. Most of the problems identified relate to vagueness, ambiguity, wordiness, repetition, fragmentation, improper punctuation, unparallel structures, redundancy, referential versatility and lack of connectivity in Arabic texts. Suggestions for handling such problems are proposed and relevant recommendations for teaching translation and for text production in Arabic are made.
