المستخلص: This paper is an attempt to revive the image of -one of the most influential figures in the history of both the theory and practice of translation. Hunayn Ibn Ishak was not only the father of translation _practice during the Golden Age of the Abbasside period but he also largely contributed to the development of the theories of translation, which have acquired independent status over the ages. This study will highlight three important contributions of the Hunayn School of Translation. The first was the large number of manuscripts translated from Greek and Latin into Arabic by Hunayn and his assistants. These manuscripts spanned a number of different fields, and included a significant number of scientific works. The second contribution arose from the role these translations played in enlightening the scientists of the time, and in promoting their creativity. The school’s third major contribution arose from its role in bridging cultural differences thus encouraging integration among peoples.
