المستخلص: (The Kingdom of Songhay) is the third largest political system in the West of Africa till the 10th Hidjri/the 16th century. The kingdom of Songhay has reached its peak during the time of “Sunni Ali”. And during the time of (Askya family) that lasted nearly a century, the kingdom of Songhay had seen a period of good days and prosperity. Islam spread out in the kingdom of Songhay because of three principal factors: the ways of caravans, the Arab traders who performed Daoua to Islam and built Masjids and schools of learning the Holy Qur’an, in addition to African preachers. However, the important factor is the Islamic religion itself; it is characterized by a high social system that calls for equality between all people. The Arabian Islamic civilization manifested itself in Songhay during the times of Askya Mohamed and his successors in many aspects. Among these aspects, sending knowledge scholars to the Islamic institutions of science in the Northern Africa, also forming a government and some advanced administrative systems, missing between Arabian Islamic systems and local African styles. And so the African society in the time of Songhay kingdom became an Islamic society not different from the rest of the other societies in the Islamic world, however, it perhaps exceeds some of them in many occasions
