|a يهدف البحث إلى تتبع تبلور الخطاب الاستشراقي البريطاني بشأن الشخصية المحمدية منذ القرن السابع الميلادي حتى نهاية القرن الثامن عشر المتمثل بعصر الكاتب إدوارد جيبون (Edward Gibbon1737-1794) وهي الحقبة التي سبقت عصر ظهور المؤلفات الأصلية للسيرة النبوية في القرن التاسع عشر الميلادي؛ التي عكفنا على تصنيفها وبيانها تبعا للملامح المنهجية والأيديولوجية لكل عصر مع الأخذ بالحسبان الفواعل المستحدثة لإنتاج الخطاب الاستشراقي ورصد التجليات المفاهيمية والتاريخية التي أنتجها في نسق تاريخي تتابعي.
