تناول هذه الدراسة موضوع المواءمة بين الإعداد الذي يوفره قسما المكتبات والمعلومات والإعلام بكلية الآداب والعلوم الاجتماعية في جامعة السلطان قابوس مع احتياجات سوق العمل العماني. وقد سعت الدراسة إلى الإجابة- بالتحديد- عن أسئلة البحث التالية: 1- ما مدى مواءمة الإعداد الذي يوفره قسما علم المكتبات والمعلومات والإعلام بكلية الآداب والعلوم الاجتماعية في جامعة السلطان قابوس مع احتياجات سوق العمل العماني من وجهة نظر خريجي القسمين المذكورين؟ 2- ما مدى مواءمة الإعداد الذي يوفره قسما المكتبات والمعلومات والإعلام، بكلية الآداب والعلوم الاجتماعية في جامعة السلطان قابوس مع احتياجات سوق العمل العماني من وجهة نظر ارباب العمل؟ أشارت النتائج المتعلقة بسؤالي البحث الأولين إلى أن الإعداد الذي يوفره قسما علم المكتبات والمعلومات والإعلام بكلية الآداب والعلوم الاجتماعية في جامعة السلطان قابوس يتلاءم جزئيا مع احتياجات سوق العمل العماني. وتعزى هذه الظاهرة من وجهة نظر كل من الخريجين وارباب العمل إلى: تركيز القسمين على الجانب النظري دون العمل التطبيقي، وعدم اعتماد اللغة الإنقليزية في تدريس بعض المقررات، وعدم تلاؤم بعض المقررات مع حاجات سوق العمل العماني، وعدم اعتماد أساليب التعليم الحديثة، فضلا عن الكتب التي لا تفي بالغرض كون التقدم المعرفي يتجاوزها.. وحول الاهتمام بتدريس اللغة الإنقليزية اقترح الخريجون وارباب العمل المزيد من الاهتمام بهذه اللغة بإقرارها لغة لتدريس بعض المقررات التخصصية، وتكثيف التدريب العملي، وربط تخصصات الكلية بسوق العمل، والزيادة في جرعة مقررات تكنولوجيا المعلومات والاتصالات، وتطوير أساليب التدريس ومناهجه، وإتاحة فرصة أمام الطالب كي يستفيد من التعليم الذاتي.
This study investigated the matching of Omani market needs and the training provided by the different departments of the College of Arts and Social Sciences at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU). The study aimed, in particular, at answering the following research questions: 1. To what extent does the training provided by the College of Arts and Social Sciences at SQU meet the needs of the Omani job market from the viewpoint of graduates of the different departments of the College? 2. To what extent does the training provided by the College of Arts and Social Sciences at SQU meet the needs of the Omani job market from the viewpoint of employers? The results of the study in relation to the first two questions revealed that the training provided by the College of Arts and Social Sciences partially meets the needs of the Omani job market. This phenomenon is due, according to graduates and employers, to the focus of some of the departments on theory rather than on practice. According to them, this situation is also the result of not using English as a teaching language in some core courses, the irrelevancy of some courses, the use of traditional teaching methods, and outdated textbooks. With regard to the third research question, the results indicated that the needs of the Omani job market for College graduates, during the period 1991-2000, increased up to 1998, then stabilized after that. As for the fourth research question, the results showed that the Omani job market needs for College graduates, during the period 2001-2005, will reach its pick in 2001. After that, these needs will be declining up to 2004, and then will resume rising in 2005. Regarding the fifth research question, both graduates and employers recommended a greater focus on English as a teaching language in some specialized courses, the intensifying of practical training, the linking of the specialization to the job market needs, the increasing of information and communication technology courses, the renovation of teaching methods, and the increasing of opportunites of students for self-learning.
