Bending stiffness is an essential material parameter for simulating a clothing product. Garments show a different appearance through modelling than textile fabrics; due to assembling processes. This is based on stiffening, which is caused by assembling process and local variations within material’s mass throughout the fabric. This article introduces a new method for determining the influence of seam stiffness on the adjacent textile fabric. Six different fabrics and three seams, which are used often in the clothing industry, in three various positions were analysed. The new bending stiffness testing device ACPM 200, which has been developed at the ITB of TU Dresden, is used for these investigations.
