The present study examines the preformance and applicability of digital ink¬jet printing on cationized cotton with natural dyes. Safflower, turmeric, cochineal and logwood were used for achieving the goal of this research. A pretreatment for cotton fabrics with cationic agent was carried out to enhance the dye ability of cotton fabrics to natural dyes. The results show that the color strength of ink-jet printing with natural dyes is gradually increased with increasing cationic agent concentration. This increase in color strength is due to introducing positively charged sites onto cotton fiber which enhances the ionic attraction between cotton and natural dyes. Factors that may affects the efficiency of ink-jet printing of cotton including concentration of alum and urea in pretreatment process as well as concentration of dispersing agent and solvent in ink formulation were studied in details . The color strength of cotton prints was found to increase with increasing the concentration of cationic agent, alum and urea in the pretreatment and also with increasing the concentration of dispersing agent and solvent in ink formulation . Surface tension and viscosity measurements for the prepared inks were assessed. Color fastness properties for the printed samples were also evaluated. In general, the results are satisfactory whether for the pretreatment or for natural dyes inks.
