This paper presents the reliability analysis of an automotive component based on field failure warranty data. The failure time is a random variable with a bimodal probability density function (pdf) which also depends upon a vector of covariates that indexes the specific operating condition. The Mixed-Generalized Exponential distribution, where the probability density function of each subpopulation (namely the ‘weak’ and 'strong’ subpopulation) depends on the covariates through the scale parameter, is used to analyze the component lifetime. A Mathcad program is used to find the maximum likelihood estimates of the model parameters. Backward procedure has been used to test the significance of covariates and to construct the regression model. Confidence intervals of the selected model parameters are obtained. Some characteristics of the selected model are derived.
