|b The purpose of this paper is to study the character of Marlowe's Barabas in the light of the Holy Quran. It demonstrates the traits of this Jew as they dawn out to Marlowe by focusing on Barabas's behaviours, dialogues, soliloquies, and asides. It points out the attitude of the other characters towards Barabas in order to provide a more comprehensive picture of Marlowe’s protagonist. It shows how the traits of the Jew of Malta are articulated in a number of Suras by citing the verses appropriate to the character of Barabas. In other words, the paper tries to illustrate to what extent Marlowe's view of the Jews corresponds with that of the Holy Quran, relying on Pickthall's The Meaning of the Glorious Koran: An Explanatory Translation as a primary source.
