The objective of this paper is to analyze the major changes in real levels and distribution of consumption expenditure in rural Egypt during the period 1981-2005, a period which witnessed profound economic arid social transformations in Egypt in addition to major political events which have had important repercussions on Egypt in general and rural Egypt in particular. The study thus represents an appraisal of the era of the last twenty years with respect to the living standards in rural Egypt as manifested by the levels of consumption.\ |
