المستخلص: This research aims for the understanding of the Private equity industry in the MENA region that has witnessed an outstanding transformation from nearly non existence to a significant growth. Especially that MENA region is one of the fast growing emerging regions with wide untapped opportunities available for investors. This study was conducted to explore and determine the major determinants of private equity investments in the MENA region, to bridge the gap in literature and to assist in the understanding of the main economic indicators that affect the PE investments. Data collected was on PE investments for four MENA countries (Egypt, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Turkey), and for a five year period (2006-2010). Panel data techniques were used to test and identify the effects of these variables on the PE investments in the region. Findings of this study depicted that developed financial sector is the most important factor that attracts PE investments to a single country. The study also suggests the presence of country specific fixed factors (e.g. demographics) that attract PE investments alongside the macroeconomic indicators. The study also suggests that the private equity industry in the MENA region is highly expected to grow and develop as the global economy recovers.
