|b This paper examines the People's Republic of China's interests in the Middle East. It argues that China's interests in the Middle East have changed from being merely dominated by political considerations to become concerned more about economic and military interests. The paper shows that oil and military technology have become China's main current interests in its relations with the countries of the Middle East These new interests have therefore replaced the old determinant of China's foreign policy toward the Middle East; namely the political interest that had dominated China's foreign policy toward the region during most of the first three decades of China-Middle East relations.
