تتمحص الدراسة الحالية موضوع الحمقى في رواية جين أوستين الموسومة ب(كبرياء وتحامل). تقع الدراسة في ثلاثة فصول بالإضافة لخاتمه. يسلط الفصل الأول الضوء على جين أوستين باعتبارها قاصة مفطورة على شغف الكتابة. علاوة على ذلك فإن رؤيتها للحياة واقعية تماما. يتتبع الفصل الثاني إسهامات ودور وصيت الروائية جين أوستين والتي قدمت من خلال تحفتها الأدبية (كبرياء وتحامل) تمثيلا دقيقا ومطابقا لواقع الحياة. لم تكن جين أوستين مصلحة اجتماعية ولكنها ليست سوى مراقبة اجتماعية متحمسة وثاقبة البصر والتي تذكر الناس بأوجه قصورهم. تناول الفصل الثالث اثنين من الحمقى في (كبرياء وتحامل) وهما السيد كواينز والسيد ويكهام. ومن خلالهما وجهت الروائي نقدا لاذعا لمجتمعها في ذلك الوقت. ومن خلالها قدمت وعالجت الرواية أوستين المواضيع المختلفة والمتمثلة في الكبرياء والتحامل وحماقة بني البشر. وخلصت الدراسة إلى أن الشخصيات الحمقى في رواية (كبرياء وتحامل) لجين أوستين هي شخصيات ثابتة لا تتغير من البداية إلى النهاية. ولكن على الرغم من ذلك إنها جديرة وتسترعى الانتباه لأنها مثيرة للاهتمام وسخرت لمختلف المواضيع
The present study aims at studying the male fools in Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. The study is divided into three chapters in addition to a conclusion. Chapter One is an introduction which aims at casting light on Jane Austen as a born story - teller who wrote only from sheer love of writing. Furthermore, Austen's vision of life is a thoroughly realistic one. Chapter two traces Jane Austen's contribution, reputation and writing career. Jane Austen's unique merits give a faithful representation of real life and this is what we meet in her masterpiece "Pride and Prejudice. .Jane Austen is not a social reformer. She is only a keen social observer who reminds people of their shortcomings. Chapter three examines the two male fools in Pride and Prejudice. Jane Austen uses them as a medium for criticizing her own society. Through the two males- Mr. Collins and Mr. Wickham , Jane Austen deals with various themes: pride and prejudice, and human foolishness. Finally, the research ends with the conclusion that, the characters of male fools in Pride and Prejudice are fixed characters, who do not change throughout . But in spite of that, they are worth attention, because they are interesting and are used for various themes.
