المستخلص: This study aims at giving an account of errors made by Yemeni University students in the area of the grammatical translation of sentences from Arabic into English. It focuses mainly on dealing with the grammatical errors made by Yemeni Arab students in their own translation into English equivalences. It shows that the main cause of these errors is the negative transfer from Arabic into English i.e. there is mismatch between the Arabic grammatical translation of sentences and that of English. This causes a major problem for Yemeni University students learning English as foreign language . This comes from the student's learning strategies. This study also indicates that Yemeni University students depend on the target language (TL) system more than on the native language (NL). The technique used is an error analysis due to its value in giving a greater understanding of the difficulties that learners face, and it may perhaps assist in the development of pedagogic strategies (Wilkins, 1972:206). After analyzing and interpreting errors made by 50 students who erroneously translated 30 Arabic sentences into English equivalences, some recommendations are given.
