|b This study is designed to measure the correlation between poverty and education in a great Wad Medani Locality of The Gezira State. For this purpose we used, basic education for children from (6 to 14) years as indicator of education while income and expenditure were taken as separate indicators of welfare. Three standard poverty incidences were also calculated, relating to the incidence, depth, severity of poverty, and poverty line. The data for this paper was collected by means of questionnaire which was distributed to a random sample of (94) household in residential clusters of a great Wad Medani Locality. The statistical results suggest that, there is significant correlation between household income and children education years, which is estimated on average at (0.47), whereas the correlation between household income and children academic performance is estimated on average at (0.30). For the relationship between household expenditure in basic education and children education years is estimated on average at (0.60). The results suggest that the correlation between household expenditure in basic education and children academic performance is estimated on average at (0.67) , the standard of children education years at (96%) were pass every education year, while the children academic performance at (74%) for children taken degree good. Also the results suggest an un-equitable distribution of expenditure and income, with regard to poverty measures, the result suggest that (65%) of the household fall below the income poverty line while (67%) fall below the expenditure line, poverty line estimated at 508 SDG per family per month, subjective poverty were estimated at 780 SDG per family per month, and food consumption were estimated at (46%) for the depth and severity of poverty, the results suggest that the income poverty is both deeper and more severe than expenditure poverty.
