Eighty four pre-service teachers participated in this study. They were divided into two groups: experimental and control. The experimental group (n=24) was taught using ICT based activities, and the control group (n=110) was taught through traditional method (teacher centered lectures). To achieve the purpose of the study, both groups were assessed before and after the course with the same instruments to measure the learning environment and knowledge of ICT, and the results were compared. The analysis of data revealed that there was a gap between the experimental group and control group's perceptions of the learning environment held by the pre-service teachers in favour of the experimental group at the end of the semester. Pre-service teachers in the experimental group had statistically significant positive changes of the learning environment of the social studies classroom in terms of Involvement, Investigation, Learning Assessment and Integration. Furthermore, the knowledge of the pre-service teachers in the experimental group increased in regards to skills, resources, pedagogy, and critique of the use of ICT-based activities were high (more than 70% for all scales) and had improved over the duration of the Social Studies Teaching Methods course more than the pre-service teachers in the control group.
