الحديث عن الحضارة يطول، فكم من باحث كتب حول مفهوم الحضارة وصاغ في عجالة ألفاظه وهو يرى أنه فعل الصواب، وفي بحثنا هذا أردنا أن نتمهل في تناول هذا المفهوم، وذلك بوضع أسس يجب أن تراعي قبل الشروع في وضع تعريف مثالي، كما حاولنا التعرض لبعض المفاهيم التي صاغها المؤرخون كأمثلة دالة. ورأينا من المفيد بعد ذلك أن نميز الألفاظ القريبة من مفهوم الحضارة لنؤكد حقيقة ما ذهبنا إليه من أسس تبرز حقيقة الفارق بين تلك الألفاظ وبين مفهوم الحضارة، كما تناولنا مفهوم البداوة والحضارة عند ابن خلدون باعتبار أن هناك علاقة حميمية بينهما في نظر مؤرخ خبير متمرس في دراسة المجتمعات البشرية، وهدفنا من ذلك زيادة تأكيد مكونات مفهوم الحضارة، ثم تطرقنا لمفاهيم متعلقة بهوية حضارتنا وخاصة أن هذه الهوية اتخذت عدة تسميات عند الباحثين، وحاولنا جهدنا تتبع الأسباب التي قادت كل باحث لإطلاق تسميته الخاصة، وكان من المفيد أيضا أن نتطرق للمفاهيم المتعلقة بالمقومات الخاصة لحضارتنا، وتلك المتعلقة بخصائصها لإيضاح ما هو لازم بهذا الصدد، وحسب هذا البحث أن يضيف شيئا في تجلية المفاهيم المتعلقة بالحضارة العربية الإسلامية.
Defining civilization may be quiet tricky, as plenty of researchers worked on defining civilization and worked up definitions of which they believe to be precise when in fact they were not. Therefore, and through this article we tried to carefully work on defining this term through establishing the fundamentals needed to come up with the perfect definition. We have provided examples of a number of terms recorded by researchers. It is useful then to consider the terms that are closely related to civilization in order to clarify the role of the fundamentals in differentiating between the term civilization and other related terms. We have also discussed the definition of civilizations from the point of view of Ibn Khaldun, the experienced and skilled historian and anthropologist. Ibn Khaldun believes that the terms al-Badawa - Bedouin lifestyle - and civilization are closely related. We aim at defining and assuring the components of the term civilization. We then discussed the terminologies related to the naming of our civilization especially that the naming differs from one researcher to another. We tried our best to pinpoint the factors that contributed in making every researcher choose the name he has chosen. It is also useful to discuss the terminologies related to the constituents of our civilization and those related to its characteristics and explain them. The importance of this article lies in the fact that it contributes in clarifying the terminologies related to Arabic Islamic civilization.
