هدفت الدراسة الحالية إلى معرفة العلاقة بين العوامل الخمسة الكبرى للشخصية والاتجاه نحو العلاقات العاطفية عبر الأنترنت، ومعرفة الفروق بين العوامل الخمسة الكبرى (العصابية، الانبساطية، الانفتاح، والطيبة، واليقظة) والاتجاه نحو العلاقات العاطفية عبر الأنترنت تبعا لمتغيري الجنس ومحل الإقامة، كما هدفت أيضا "إلى معرفة الفروق بين المرتفعين والمنخفضين في العوامل الخمسة الكبرى للشخصية في التوجه نحو العلاقات العاطفية عبر الأنترنت وكذلك معرفة الإسهام النسبي للعوامل الخمسة الكبرى في الاتجاه نحو العلاقات العاطفية عبر الأنترنت. واشتملت عينة الدراسة على 226 طالبا من طلاب الجامعة، منهم (110) من الإناث و(116) من الذكور تتراوح أعمارهم من (18-23) وتوصلت النتائج إلى وجود علاقة بين كلا "من العصابية والانبساط والطيبة والاتجاه نحو العلاقات العاطفية عبر الأنترنت. في حين لم تظهر علاقة بين كل من الانفتاح واليقظة والاتجاه نحو العلاقات العاطفية عبر الأنترنت لدى أفراد العينة. وكذلك وجود فروق دالة إحصائياً لصالح الإناث في العصابية، والذكور في الانبساط، والذكور في الطيبة، وفي الاتجاه. في حين لم توجد فروق في أبعاد الانفتاح واليقظة، ووجود فروق دالة إحصائيا لصالح الريف في العصابية، والحضر في الاتجاه نحو العلاقات العاطفية عبر الأنترنت. في حين لم توجد فروق في أبعاد الانبساط والانفتاح والطيبة واليقظة. ووجود فروق دالة إحصائيا لصالح المرتفع ينفي العصابية والانبساطية والطيبة واليقظة في الاتجاه نحو العلاقات العاطفية عبر الأنترنت. في حين لم توجد فروق في بعد الانفتاح. كما أنه أمكن التنبؤ بدرجات الاتجاه نحو العلاقات العاطفية عبر الأنترنت لدى عينة الدراسة من خلال درجاتهم على (العصابية-الانبساط-الطيبة).
