منذ بدء التأليف النّحوي والنحاة لم يألوا جهدًا في بيان الوظائف النّحوية، وما يُحدّد هذه الوظائف من عناصر لغويّة،محاولين في ذلك أن يَفْصِلوا الباب النحويّ عما يُشَاكله أو يُشابهه، فبيّنوا في كل باب المعاني المحدِّدة لوظيفة الكلمة في نظامها اللغوي، والمباني الصالحة للتعبير عن هذه الأبواب. هذه الدراسة مراجعة لجهود النحويين حول المعنى الوظيفي، بيَّنتْ التداخل في الوظائف النحويّة الذي لم يَسْلم منه النّحاة مع ما بذلوه من جُهود في الاحتراز من ذلك، وقد كان الحديث عن الجملتين البدليّة والتفسيريّة أنموذجاً جليًّا لتوضيح هذه الظاهرة، وقد عرض البحث لجهود النحاة واللغويين المحدثين في المعنى الوظيفي، ثم بيّن البحث لمعنى التداخل في المعنى الوظيفي، والمعاني المحدِّدة لإعراب الجملة عند القدامى والمحدثين، ثم تلا ذلك بيان التداخل الحاصل بين الجملتين البدليّة والتفسيريّة من خلال ذكر الأنماط المكوّنة لكلا الوظيفتين، وحصر أوجه التداخل بينهما، كما فرّق البحث بين التداخل والتعدد في المعنى الوظيفي.
Since the beginning of syntax authoring, grammarians have done a great effort to illustrate the grammatical functions, and what identifies these functions of the linguistic elements. They have tried to separate the grammatical part from its resemblance and similarities. They have explained in each section the specified meanings of the word in its linguisticsystem,and suitable structures of expressions for these sections. This study is a review of the grammarians efforts about the functional meaning showing overlapping in grammatical functions which cannot be avoided by grammarians themselves. Talking about the apposition and the explanatory sentences is a clear model to explain this phenomenon. This research has shown the efforts of grammarians and linguists in the functional meaning, it clarified what's meant by overlapping in the functional meaning, and specified meanings of sentence parsing by the former and modern grammarians. Then followed by clarifying the overlapping between the two sentences, the apposition and the explanatory through mentioning patterns consisting of two functions, and restricting overlaps between them. This research differentiate between overlapping and multiplicity of functional meaning.
