المستخلص:	The article aims to discuss the use of cultural productions in the teaching of Foreign Languages, mainly English. I attempt to demonstrate that such a musical as West Side Story may be used as ‘text’ in order to help the students of English to investigate various aspects of American literature and civilisation, as well as the specificities of American English. My discussion of this topic is set against the background of the recent studies in Cultural Theory and Mikhail Bakhtin’s view that any cultural production grounded in language may be considered as "text."
