520 |d Hausa oral singers in Nigeria play vital roles in the society, among which are their contribution in resolving ethnic, religious and political crises among others. They achieve this through the medium of entertainment, with their target being mainly (but not only) the common and non-educated people in the society, who are mostly at the conflict receiving end. Hausa oral singers otherwise called oral poets or in Hausa ‘Mawakan Baka’, have their own peculiar way of passing across information within and outside their environment. This paper, therefore, offers an examination and analysis of the positive impact of Damba’u’s ‘Yan Nijeriya ‘Yan Uwa Mu Yi Kokari…, (Fellow Nigerians Let’s Unite and Follow the Right Path…). There is in this song an over-arching emphasis on the relevance of understanding and unity amongst people in the federal republic of Nigeria. The song is imbued with advices and suggestions, which if adhered to could, in the least, rid the country and Africa at large, of ethnic and religious crises. This paper will, therefore, attempt to bring to the fore the wisdom behind Damba’u’s song; with the hope that it could be used in solving political, regional, ethnic and religious crises in Nigeria and Africa.
