المستخلص: Many factors lead to rampant divorce in the Northern States of Nigeria, more especially among the Hausa Muslim Community. Incidentally, those factors have been grossly misconceived either due to the ignorance on the part of many Muslim spouses or lack of understanding the nature and wisdom behind the Islamic law perspective on the part of non-Muslims. This article examines the main causes of the rampant divorce in the community and Shari’ah perspective as solution. The aim is to present the various causes of divorce in the Hausa Muslim Community with a view to increase the understanding of Muslim spouses and non-Muslims alike. The article shows how Shari’ah perspective on rampant divorce in the Northern Nigeria can be applied for the overall success of marital life. It also observes that if the various provisions of the Shari’ah would be followed by the spouses, justice and fairness will be realized in the family, leading to serious reduction of the cases of divorce. It therefore, recommends that spouses should seek to understand the causes which lead to divorce and the Shari’ah provisions of Islamic law on marital life in order to realize peace and tranquility in their respectful families.
