Pollution is the primary reason that may lead to the elimination of humankind and life in general on the planet Earth. Since the industrial revolution, pollution rates have reached unprecedented levels in the history of the world and the devastation caused by the misuse of resources has reached record numbers in killing and exterminating many forms of life on the planet.

Water pollution is one of the most serious manifestations of current pollution. It has been estimated that sewage waste produced by a population complex with more than 250,000 cubic meters per day, and that one liter of this water contains 2 to 3 billion microbes. As a result of this microbial contamination, it is clear that cholera, typhoid, diarrhea and many other diseases can be transmitted to humans from the coastal waters of the Mediterranean basin, the coast of which is home to about 100 million people. Every day, most of which is discharged into the sea, and 33% of this water is completely untreated.

This research is part of a research group aimed at developing an integrated program to monitor the beaches of Tripoli and neighboring cities to monitor the sources and quantity of pollution and lay the sound foundations for achieving effective and economical solutions to reduce the amount of pollution while setting specifications and standards for clean Libyan beaches.

This research sheds light on the main sources of the pollution problem in the beaches of Tripoli and neighboring cities, testing a range of random samples from some seashore to ascertain their contamination and determine the type of biological contamination. Laboratory tests of about 100 samples of soil and seawater and different areas of the shore along 10 kilometers along the shores of Tripoli and Tajura showed that about 35% of the soil samples are contaminated and that more than 50% of the seawater samples are contaminated with human parasites causing diseases such as Lambrecoid Ascaris, Giardia duodenalis, Entamoeba histolytica, etc.
