المستخلص: يدرس هذا البحث مصطلحي النصارى والمسيحيين وفق منهج مقارن ما بين كل من الديانتين النصرانية والإسلام، وقد تبين أن مصطلح النصارى يعود عند النصارى أنفسهم إلى الانتساب لمدينة الناصرة، ثم أطلق على طائفة يدعون أنها صاحبة الإيمان المحرف، أهم ما يميزها إنكار ألوهية المسيح عليه السلام، ويعود مصطلح المسيحيين إلى الانتساب للمسيح الذي اجتمع فيه اللاهوت والناسوت من خلال التجسد الذي يدعونه، وبالتالي فإنهم يحاولون التهرب من المصطلح الأول والتمسك بالثاني. أما الجانب الإسلامي فيعود مصطلح النصارى عندهم إلى أحد معنيين: الانتساب إما إلى مدينة الناصرة أو إلى النصرة والتناصر، أما مصطلح المسيحيين فلا يرى الجانب الإسلامي – في الأغلب – جواز إطلاقه عليهم، إما لأنه لا يجوز نسبتهم إلى المسيح عليه السلام، وإما لاختلاف التصور لحقيقة المسيح ما بين النصرانية والإسلام. وقد بينت الدراسة أن مصطلح النصارى هو الأقدم، وهو الصحيح كذلك، وبالتالي إطلاقه على أولئك الذين يدعون أنهم على دين المسيح عليه السلام، وهذا هو المنهج الذي سار عليه القرآن الكريم، والمفكرون المسلمون من بعده.

This research study uses comparative analysis between Christianity and Islam to examine the terms, "Nazarenes", and, "Christians". The study finds that the term "Nazarenes" originated from Christians themselves who were from the city of Nazareth. It was then used to refer to a sect that was seen as "distorting the faith", with their most important distinguishing feature that they denied Christ, peace be upon him, as a deity. The term "Christians", on the other hand, originates from “Christ,” joining the characteristics of divinity and humanity through the claim of reincarnation. It is used by those who wish to distance themselves from the first term and adhere to the second. From the Islamic perspective, the term “Nazarenes” is used to refer to one of two things: originating from the city of Nazareth, or from the root of :support and aid” to Jesus peace be upon him. As for the term "Christians", most Islamic perspectives do not use this term because it is forbidden to assign them to Christ, peace be upon him, or due to the difference in opinion between Nazarenes and Muslims about Christ’s reality. This study finds that the term “Nazarenes” is historically older, and it is the correct term to apply to those who claim to follow the religion of Christ, peace be upon him. This is the same doctrine used in the Holy Quran, and Muslim thinkers who came after its revelation.
