المستخلص: This paper investigates the need for Continuing Professional Development for librarians in the State of Kuwait. It aims at identifying qualifications and competence levels of library professionals working in academic, public, school and special libraries. It also highlights the frequency of their participation in Continuing Professional Development activities as well as their attitude towards continuing education programmes. To collect the necessary data, a survey questionnaire was distributed to 110 librarians from academic, public, school and special libraries in the State Kuwait of which 98 were returned. 6 answers were invalid due to incompleteness and 12 were not returned. Collected data were quantitatively and qualitatively analyzed. The findings show that most of academic, public, school and special librarians in the State of Kuwait have only the basic skill of information technology and searching. The majority of library professionals rarely take part in Continuing Professionals Development activities. More opportunities should be given to librarians to update their knowledge and skills to cope with the constant changes in the domain of library and information science. Library administrators should initiate and encourage participation of librarians in such activities by giving additional moral and financial incentives.
