|b The transition from war to peace in Morocco-Portugal relations. -This article highlights the factors that changed Portuguese-Moroccan relations from the state of war and hostility to a state of peace and cooperation. These factors led the two countries to sign a peace treaty in 1774. On the Moroccan side, the major factor was the decline of the fleet, which was the main defence of the country and a major economic source. There was also the approach of Sultan Mohammed Ben Abdullah, who adopted a reform opened to political dealing and trading with the Europeans. This was confirmed by signing several fleet-trade agreements with these countries. On the other hand, Portugal was under the influence of the seven-year war and border dispute with Spain about Southern Brazil. It thus needed to intensify its efforts and reduce the burden of guarding commercial fleets and to avoid losses due to Moroccan or Maghreb piracy (Otmane Mansouri).\
