Morocco-Portugal relations in the late nineteenth century seen through Moroccan diplomatic messages. - This study identifies the positive development of Moroccan-Portuguese diplomatic relations in the late 19th century. The analysis presented here is based on four messages which the Sultan Hassan I sent to the Portuguese court on different occasions. As well as presenting a linguistic and lexical analysis, the study also put these messages in the historical context of this critical period in the history of the Moroccan state, which witnessed a strong competition among Western countries to get more political, military and economic privileges in the Cherifian Kingdom (Driss Bouhlila).
