The present study compares the possible effects of two thinking training modes: collaborative usage of The Six Thinking Hats (STHs) and individual usage of the divergent thinking strategies (DTSs) on the creative thinking abilities, persuasive writing performance and academic self- concept among students with different language proficiency levels. The sample of the study consisted of 60 first year female students studying in Faculty of Media and communications, Imam University. The sample was distributed into two experimental groups, group one (30 students) taught through the six thinking hats model, and the other group (30 students) taught through the divergent thinking strategies. The findings revealed that: first, training on both six thinking hats and divergent thinking strategies significantly enhanced creative thinking abilities, persuasive writing performance and academic self-concept. Second, there was a main effect for the treatment; as there was a statistically significant difference between both groups on posttests.
