This study investigates the attitudes of Libyan secondary school teachers and students towards using Arabic language in EFL classroom. It aims at identifying the role of Arabic in learning English language, and finding out the attitudes of Libyan teachers and students towards applying Arabic in EFL classroom. The study uses both the qualitative and quantitative approaches as main methods, and the questionnaire for secondary school students and the interview for the secondary school teachers were used as tools for gathering information. The study comes out with many results which can be summarized in: Libyan secondary school students use Arabic in English language classes, the excessive use of Arabic may hinder learning English language, similar to the teachers’ attitudes, the students’ attitudes towards using Arabic in classroom were generally positive, and teachers usually use Arabic to clarify different items for weak learners. It recommends that: further studies should be encouraged to investigate the relationship between using Arabic and motivation on one hand and Arabic and promoting learners’ level on the other hand, the study should help educators and curriculum developers to publish guidelines for teachers and students on applying Arabic systematically.
