|b This paper analyzes from a historical perspective the role of the French economic diplomacy in the international expansion of the French capital in times of crisis. The main objective of State action is to overcome the fragility of international specialization of the French economy. The recent renewal of contractual relations with certain emerging countries recognizes the combined effects of the global crisis and the economic policy choices decided in France to correct external imbalances. The promotion of exports to these growth markets is not unique to France, but what unites its position is the privileged place given to these markets in the rebalancing of foreign trade policy. Thus, for nearly four decades, and in a context of strong international competition, France offers to its exporter’s diplomatic apparatus of the State, then reconnecting with an old tradition of its foreign economic policy.
