تنطلق هذه الدراسة من افتراض أن الإسلام السياسي الذي تجسد في "جماعة الإخوان المسلمين" والتنظيمات التي تفرعت منها، قطع الصلة مع تيار الإصلاح الديني، وأجهض بالتالي وعود التغيير كلها التي حملها هذا التيار، وكان من العوامل التي تسببت بنكوص التنوير في الفكر العربي. ولتزكية هذا الافتراض، تبدأ هذه الدراسة بعرض الدور الذي أداه المصلحون الإسلاميون في التحديث الفكري، من خلال دعوتهم إلى إسلام عقلاني منفتح على العلم ومتوافق مع متطلبات الحداثة، ثم تتوقف عند تبلور أيديولوجيا الإسلام السياسي، وتنتهي، بعد أن تبين مخاطر الخطاب المتزمت واللاعقلاني الذي يوظف الدين في السياسة، إلى إبراز مواقف المصلحين الجدد، من باحثين وعلماء دين، الذين يؤكدون أن الإسلام ينسجم مع العلمانية والديمقراطية والعلم الحديث، ويدعون إلى إحياء الإصلاح الديني والتحرر من أسر فقه القرون الوسطى.
This study proceeds from the hypothesis that political Islam, embodied in the “Muslim Brotherhood” and the organizations that branched out from it, cut the link with the trend of religious reform, and thus aborted all the promises of change carried by this current and it was one of the factors that caused the regression of enlightenment in Arab thought. In order to support this hypothesis, this study begins by presenting the role played by Islamic reformers in intellectual modernization through their call for a rational Islam that is open to science and compatible with the requirements of modernity. Then it stops at the crystallization of the ideology of political Islam and ends, after showing the dangers of the puritanical and irrational discourse that employs religion in politics, to highlight the positions of the new reformers, from researchers and religious scholars, who affirm that Islam is consistent with secularism, democracy, and modern science, and call for the revival of the religious reform and freedom from the families of medieval jurisprudence.
