حرص الصحابة  حرصاً تاماً على تلقي الحديث من رسول الله , مع الحفظ والضبط التام, والدقة والأمانة عند التحمل والأداء والتبليغ, ثم عني علماء الأمة برواية السنة النبوية, واهتموا بحفظها, وتدوينها اهتماماً بالغاً جيلاً بعد جيل, ولم يُعنَ بعلم من العلوم ما عُني بالسنة النبوية الشريفة مصدر التشريع الثاني, فألفت أنواع متعددة منها الصحاح, والمسانيد, والمصنفات, والسنن, والجوامع وغيرها, ولما كان صحيح البخاري من أحسن الكتب تصنيفاً وتبويباً, وأجودها تأليفاً, وأصحها حديثاً, فقد قضى العلماء أمامه الليالي والأيام ما بين شارح ومترجم لرجاله, وباحث في شرطه ومستدركاً عليه. ومن هؤلاء ابن بطال الذي شرح الصحيح, ويعد شرحه من أقدم شروح الجامع المطبوعة, وهو الشرح الذي أقوم بدراسة منهجه في هذا البحث, وقد سلكت في البحث المنهج الاستقرائي والاستنباطي والنقلي, حيث قمت باستقراء أجزاء الكتاب, واستنبطت منهج المؤلف منه, ثم مثلتُ له بأمثلة من الكتاب تدل عليها, وكان من أبرز النتائج: اشتمال الشرح على كثير من المسائل الحديثية واللغوية, والفوائد الفقهية والحديثية, ويعدّ الشرح مصدراً مهماً في علم مختلف الحديث, لاعتنائه بإزالة التعارض الظاهري بين الأحاديث, كما يغلب على شرح ابن بطال الشرح الفقهي, ونقل أقوال المذاهب, مما يجعله مصدراً من مصادر الفقه المقارن, وقد أوصت الدراسة: بالعناية بالجانب التطبيقي في دراسة كتب شراح الحديث, واستخراج المناهج التي سار الأئمة عليها في كتبهم, وتنمية التفكير المنهجي لدى طلاب وطالبات الجامعة, وتنشئة جيل لديه ملكة في التعامل مع أكبر قدر ممكن من المصادر والمراجع الحديثية, كذلك دراسة الشرح دراسة علمية تقوم على تخريج الأحاديث التي أوردها ابن بطال في أثناء الشرح وتوثيق النصوص بنسبتها لقائليها.
