بتأثير من أعلام "الرابطة القلمية"، قدمت تجربة أبى ماضي الشعرية، في مرحلة نضجه وتطوره من الأسلوب التقليدي إلى الأسلوب الجديد، نموذجا لحداثة عربية معتدلة يتمازج فيها الماضي والحاضر، الأصيل والمعاصر، العربي والغربي. ويعد هذا النموذج مثالاً لخط التواصل المستمر في حركة الشعر العربي الحديث من الاتجاه الرومنسي إلى حركة "الشعر الحر". ويقدم ديوانه الثالث "الجداول" نموذجاً ينطوي على البدور الأولى التي أرهصت لهده الحركة. فقد تجسدت، في كثير من قصائده، رؤى ومواقف فكرية تختلف عن الفكر التقليدي السائد في علاقة الإنسان بالعالم، وتميل إلى "نسبية" الحقيقة في إطار المعرفة الإنسانية، وتهيمن عليها هواجس الحيرة والشك والقلق الوجودي. ولعل مثل هده الإرهاصات، في الرؤيا والموقف واللهجة، أصبحت أكثر بروزاً في شعر الحداثة العربية التالية لمرحلة الرومنسية العربية. ولكن إنجازات تجربة أبى ماضي الشعرية لم تقف عند حدود هذه الإرهاصات المتعلقة بالمضامين الشعرية وحدها، بل توازت معها ما قدمته هذه التجربة على مستوى تجديد الأدوات الشعرية والقيم الجمالية المحايثة لتلك المضامين والرؤى بما يضمن التحام عناصر الشكل والمضمون في العمل الشعري التحاماً تاماً. لقد تجسدت نظرته التحررية إلى الإنسان والحياة والعالم في نسيج لغوي معاصر، إضافة إلى بناء إيقاعي متدفق يتناغم مع سائر عناصر النص الشعري. بكلمات موجزة يمكن القول إن تجربة أبى ماضي الشعرية تؤكد قدرة الحداثة المعتدلة على الاستجابة لدواعي التحول الاجتماعي والثقافي والأدبي، وعلى التمهيد لحداثة أخرى لاحقة.
Influenced by major members of the society of “al-Rabita al-Qalamiyya,” Abu Madi’s poetic experience, in the height of its maturity and transference from traditional to new style, presented an example of a moderate Arabic modernism, fusing the past with the present, the traditional with the contemporary, the Arabian with the Western. This example presents a typical instance of the continuum of modern Arabic poetry from Romanticism to the “Free verse” movement. His third collection, Al-Jadawil, offers an example of the first seeds that paved the way for this movement. In this collection, Abu Madi expressed insights and intellectual stands different from traditional prevalent thought concerning the relationship between man and his world - an attitude that admits a “relativity” of truth in human knowledge and that is governed by uncertainty, suspicion and existential anxiety. Such harbingers in vision, attitude and tone seem to have become more prominent in the poetry of Arabic modernism in the period following Arabic romanticism. Abu Madi’s poetic achievement, however, did not stop there, but it was accompanied by renewing poetic devices and aesthetic values immanent in those attitudes and visions, ensuring the complete unity of form and content in the poetic work. His liberal views of man, life and the world are embodied in a contemporary language model, combined with an imaginative capability to create fantastic transparent poetic images and a flowing rhythmic structure in harmony with other components in the poetic text. In brief, Abu Madi’s poetic experience could be said to have emphasized the ability of a moderate modern¬ism to respond to the conditions of social, cultural and literary change, paving the way for another subsequent modernism.
