انطلاقا من أهمية تعريف العلم في بيان موضوعه، وطبيعته، وحدوده، ووظيفته، ستحاول هذه الدراسة الوقوف أمام عدد من تعريفات القدماء للبلاغة وقوفا تاريخيا يكشف ارتباطها بمراحل التأليف البلاغي؛ ثم ستركز على اثنين منها -تعريف ابن وهب والخطيب القزويني-لتحليل دلالاتهما، وبيان ارتباطهما بأغراض التأليف. وانتهج البحث لهذه الغاية منهجا وصفيا تحليليا تاريخيا. وجاء في تمهيد ومبحثين. درس التمهيد أهمية التعريف في العلوم العربية والإسلامية، وقدم المبحث الأول وضفا تاريخيا لثمانية تعريفات عرف بها القدماء البلاغة، مبينا من خلاله ارتباط التعريف بمراحل التأليف البلاغي. وأما المبحث الثاني (بين التعريف والكتاب) فقدم دراسة لاثنين من التعريفات الثمانية الواردة في المبحث الأول؛ وذلك لمحاولة استجلاء حضور كل تعريف في الكتاب الوارد فيه، وكان الهدف من هذا الاستجلاء معرفة مدى ارتباط تعريف البلاغة بمقاصد الكتاب الوارد فيه خلال مرحلتين من مراحل البلاغة العربية؛ مرحلة بدء التصنيف المنهجي التي أتخذنا ابن وهب نموذجا لها، ومرحلة الاكتمال والاستقرار التي أتخذنا الخطيب القزويني ممثلا لها.
This study focuses on some early definitions of ’’Rhetoric”. It employs a historical perspective to reveal the definitions’ connection to the stages of rhetorical authorship. The study concentrates on two definitions - that of Ben- Wahb’s and Qazwini’s - and it analyzes their significance and clarifies their relationship to matters of authorship. The research follows a descriptive, analytical and historical approach, and it consists of a preface and two studies. The preface examines the importance of the ’’definition” in the Arab and Islamic Sciences while the first study introduces a historical description for eight definitions of ’’Rhetoric” that were provided by ancient scholars. The second section, (the definition vs. the book), present a study of two definitions out of the eight that were mentioned in the first section. This is done to clarify the presence of each definition in the book that it appears in. The purpose of this clarification is to identify how closely related the rhetorical definition is to the aims of the book in which it’s mentioned during two stages of Arabic rhetoric. These stages are: ’’The Beginning of Methodological Classification” using Ben- Wahb as a model and ’’Completion and Stability” using Qazwini as a model.
