|b The objective of this research paper is to develop a set of policies and measures that help increasing the share of both rail and bus in intercity passenger trips in Egypt. In addition, the paper investigates the economic implication of moving more trips by rail and bus compared with the current situation. The paper includes a complete methodology developed to achieve the research objectives. The economic implications bave been examined in light of two main scenarios. The analysis showed that shifting 5 and 10 percent of care and intercity taxi to rail and bus would reduce the total transport cost of passengers by about LE 676 million and LE 1344.2 million respectively. In addition there will be significant economic benefits in terms of reduction in both accident cost and air pollution damage cost.
