The study shows that: The issue of poverty in Egypt is a very complicated and multidimensional one. While Egypt trys seriously to achieve a permanent, economic development, reducing poverty is still considered the most urgent challenge, a joint study of IMF and the Egyptian Government shows that poverty in Egypt decreased from 19.4% in 1995/1996 to 16.7% in 1999/2000, but it is still high according to the international rates. This study ends with suggesting some policies to reduce poverty in Egypt, the most important ones are: (1) Determining the role of the government in reducing poverty. 1) Increasing the role of private sector. 2) Drawing many active programs to develop small projects sector. 3) Developing the role of social work.
