المستخلص: This is a corpus- based linguistic study of abstract nouns in eight different prominent translations of the Holy Qur'an. The main focus of this study is to show how the corpus-based translation approach contributes a new and an effective attempt to study and improve the available English translation of the Qur'an. This work presents comparative study of a sample of abstract nouns in Arabic-English Parallel Corpus, Annotated Quranic Arabic Corpus. The researcher aims to find out how the very same abstract noun differs in each single use and how the very same noun differs in the very same use in each translation. The results also show the rich and diverse information which a parallel corpus and translation equivalents can offer. As a method for comparing the abstract nouns in Arabic and English, I will look at the way they are translated into English; their English counterparts. Polysemous or multi-meaning nature of lexical items is a linguistic phenomenon that has a great interest for linguists, whether in English or Arabic. This linguistic phenomenon is considered an actual problem that affects the process of translation in general and Qur'anic translation in particular. In the Ever-Glorious Qur'an some polysemous abstract nouns are interpreted by many translators as having the same meaning, while the context, i.e. the lexical environment may clarify the differences between the different usages of the same abstract noun, whatever slight they are. The present study is mainly concerned with the problem of context-determined multi-meaning abstract nouns in the Arabic-English Qur'an Translation. It is an attempt to tackle this linguistic phenomenon and how it is related to corpus linguistics as a method in investigating language use by showing how each usage in its own different collocates; and hence conveying a different semantic prosody. This methodology provides many techniques that facilitate research process.
