In this experiment, a Mossbauer setup is used to calculate the isomer shift, the quadruple splitting and the line width in a potassium ferricyanide K3Fe(CN)6 sample. The setup consisted of a Co57 mounted on a transducer for Doppler shifting. The emitted photons travelled down a lead-covered rail towards a filter, then the absorber behind which was a proportional counter. The counter was connected to an amplifier, which then lead into a multichannel analyzer. The sample put on a sample holder of the setup of the experiment and left for about two hours. Without magnetic field effect, H=0, quadruple splitting, isomer shift and the line width were calculated.
