يعتبر الخط العربي من أهم مجالات الفن التشكيلي وأكثرها تميزا وحرفية وأصالة وارتباطا بالحضارة والثقافة الإسلامية والعربية، وقد تحدث الرسام الشهير بيكاسو عن الخط العربي بقوله "إن أقصى ما وصلت إليه في فن الرسم وجدت الخط العربي قد سبقني إليه منذ أمد بعيد". فالخط العربي والكتابات العربية ليست مجرد رسم أو كتابة بل هي فن وعلم استطاع الخطاط أن يصل به إلى ذروة الإتقان والكمال الفني عن طريق معرفته بينية اللغة ومدلولها الحرفي وكل ما يميزه من التزام وإنسانية وخلفية فنية، مكنت الخط العربي من أن يقتحم مجال الفنون التشكيلية المعاصرة ويكتسب روحا فنية حديثة اتسمت بتلاحم وتمازج بين مختلف المدارس الفنية فأصبح الخط العربي لدى بعض الفنانين ذو دلالات مختلفة عبرت عن قضايا وهموم إنسانية. ولذلك فإننا عن طريق الجمع بين ما يحمل الخط العربي من جمال وبين التأثيرات الجمالية الناتجة من الحفر (الكيميائي) كمعالجة سطحية للمعدن يمكننا إنتاج مشغولات مبتكرة من الحلي المعدنية لها طابع عربي أسلامي وبالتالي فيهدف هذا البحث إلى:- الاستفادة من التشكيلات التكرارية للخط العربي كمدخل تصميمي لتصميم حلي معدنية منفذة بالحفر تتماشى مع روح العصر مع المحافظة على أصالة الفن الإسلامي. كما تناول البحث مشكلة البحث وأهدافه وأهميته وفروضه وأهم مصطلحاته وتطبيقاته.
