لما كان النص" عبارة عن جمل أو متتاليات متعاقبة خطيا، وجب أن تكون هذه الجمل مترابطة فيما بينها حتى تكون نصا متماسكا، فعطف الجملة على الجملة يتم بطرق عديدة، منها الربط بأدوات الوصل (Conjunction)، والربط بأدوات الفصل(disjunction)، والربط بالأدوات الاستدراك (contrajunction)، والربط بأدوات التفريغ أو الاتباع (subordination)، والربط بأدوات الربط الزمني (temporal conjunction). ويعد العطف من أبرز القضايا التي اهتم بها علماء النص لدورها في تحقيق الاتساق بين عناصر النص، وتحليل النصوص في ضوء المنهج النصي ولذا تعد وسائل الربط في النصوص تعبيرا صريحا عن العلاقة المعنوية الموجودة بين أجزاء النص وتحديدا للطريقة التي يترابط بها اللاحق مع السابق بشكل منتظم، وللأدوات-تحديدا-دون غيرها من وسائل الربط أهمية كبيرة في سبك النصوص، لأنه قد لا يخلو نص من أدوات تربط بين كلمات الجمل، وأخرى بين الجمل، وثالثة تربط بين الفقرات حتى يكون النص مسبوكا كأنه جملة واحدة، والجملة كأنها كلمة واحدة. وسيحاول هذا المبحث الإجابة عن الأسئلة الآتية: 1-ما العلاقة التي تجمع مفهوم العطف عند القدماء (البلاغيين والمفسرين، والعطف عند المحدثين النصيين؟ 2-ما علاقة تأويل النصوص بفهم " العطف" كونه أداة لسانية تسبك الجمل بعضها ببعض؟ 3-كيف استطاع ابن عاشور أن يتعامل مع تلك الأداة؟
