لقد استطإع (جار الله محمود بن عمر الزمخشري)) أن يرسم أبعادا متكاملة للمجاز القرآني فكان بحق - في ذلك - رائد من رواد مرحلة التاصيل لهذا المعلم البارز من معالم البلاغة القرآنية..... ٠ وتميزت ريادته هذه وأصالته تلك إنه استطاع سبر أغوار المجاز بعامة، والمجار القرآني بخاصة معبرا في ذلك عن ذكاء متوقد، وبراعة لغوية نادرة إذ لم يعدم الحس الفني فكان في معجمه (أساس البلاغة) العالم الموسوعى المتأمل فيما ورد عن العرب من دلالات حقيقية ومجازيه، جمع فيها بين فصاحة التراكب وجزالتها. فكانت دراسته للمجاز عامة من دون اللجوء الى تقسيماته وكأنه أراد بذلك آن يكشف عن ظاهرة التطور للدلالة المجازية حتى القرن السادس الهجري. أما تفسيره (الكشاف) فقد حلل فيه الآيات القرآنية ذات الدلالة المجازية تحليلا يكشف عن عقلية علمية منظرة جمع فيها صاحبها بين الأصول القرآنية والتراث العربي.
