المستخلص: Text cohesion is an important criterion upon which translation assessment is based Cohesion is realized by several means of which ellipsis is one. This paper discusses the use of nominal ellipsis as a marker of textual cohesion and its translation into Arabic. The analysis of authentic translations reveals that nominal ellipsis is not always translated properly. which results in ambiguity and thus conveys different meanings to the target language readership. Furthermore, the syntactic differences and stylistic preferences of the two languages require English-Arabic translators to opt for certain cohesive devices over others to achieve cohesion. coherence and naturalness of expression in translation.
