ماركوس كورنيليوس فرنتو (Marcus CorneliusFronto) ابن كيرتا، من بين المفكرين المشاهير عاش في فترة حكم أنتونينوس (Antoninus pius). اختاره هذا الأخير ليكون مدرسا لأبنائه ماركوس أوريليوس (Marcus Aurelius) ولوكيوس فيروس (Lucius Verus) مما يدل أن للأفارقة مكانة هامة في الحياة العلمية وحتى السياسية له أعمال كثيرة بما فيها المراسلات، الخطب والمقالات والكتب من أهمها: "حرب البارثين" (La Guere Des Parts)، مبادئ التاريخ (Lhistoire Les Principes De)، "مغامرة آريون" (Aventure Darion). كما تقلد مناصب عدة محام، قنصل وعضوا في مجلس الشيوخ وقاض بلدي ومسؤول المالية، مارس هذه الوظائف بحماس وإخلاص وهذا ما أكده بقوله: "جلالة الإمبراطور قدمت كل إحساني، فقد بذلت قصارى جهدي وعملت بنشاط وحيوية إزاء واجباتي البروقنصلية، والأعمال التي زاولتها شاهدة على ذلك...." محب وفخور بأصوله ومستعد للدفاع عن أبناء وطنه في هذا يقول: "أنا بربري ليبي ومن منطقة الليبيين الرحل." يضيف ويقول: "أفضل أن أضخم في الدفاع عن وطني على مصالحي الشخصية ..."
