المستخلص: تناول البحث قضية الصراع والجدل القائم بين دعاة الحداثة وخصومها منذ ظهورها في عشرينات هذا القرن حتى الآن، وقد استهل البحث بمجموعة من التساؤلات حول هذا الموضوع، كما تم تحديد الأهداف التي يسعي إليها، وأبرزها: تحليل مواقف كل من دعاة الحداثة وخصومها، واستشراف الحداثة التي نحتاجها. وقد اعتمد البحث المنهج الوصفي القائم علي البحث والتحليل والمقارنة كأداة لتحديد مفهوم دقيق للحداثة وجذورها لدى العرب، وكيفية تعاملهم معها، مع تحليل رؤية كل من دعاتها و خصومها لهذا المفهوم، وكيفية تعاملهم معه، بالإضافة إلى النظرة التوفيقية التي طرحها بعض المفكرين العرب الداعية إلى تحقيق حداثة عربية مؤثرة تستلهم من التراث العريق أحسن ما فيه، وتكون منطلقا لإبداع قرائح مفكرينا وأدبائنا بالحديث الجديد الملائم لقيم ديننا، ولطبيعة عصرنا الحالي. ومن أبرز النتائج التي خلص إليها البحث: أن عدم وضوح مفهوم الحداثة لدى الكثير من المثقفين العرب وأدبائهم من مؤيديها ومعارضيها-كان السبب وراء السجالات التي أشعلت النار بين دعاتها وخصومها، كما أن غياب الأسس الموضوعية لأفكار التقدم والعقلانية والتنوير لنشوء الحداثة عند الغرب أدى إلى تخبط الحداثي العربي نفسه، وعدم قدرته على تحديد هويته، بالإضافة إلى أن أزمة الحداثة لم تكن أزمة تلقي نتيجة الهوة الواسعة بين المتلقي والمبدع كما قيل، وإنما هي أزمة غموض وغرابة غلبت علي إنتاج الحداثيين.

The research discussed the issue of conflict and controversy between advocates and opponents of modernism Since their appearance in the twenties of this century so far .The research started with a group of questions regarding this subject and its goals were determined, the most important one of these goals is the analysis of both modernism’s advocates’ and opponents’ stands and predict the modernism we need. The research relied on The descriptive method that’s based on search and analysis and comparison was used as an analysis and comparison tool to determine the precise concept of modernism and its roots among Arabs and how they deal with it. Alongside an analysis of the vision of both its advocates and opponents towards this concept and how they deal with it ,in addition to the conciliatory view provided by some of the Arab thinkers who call for achieving an effective Arabic modernism which is inspired by the best of ancient heritage, and become a starting point for the creativity of our intellectuals and writers with the new speech that fits our religion’s values and our current age’s nature .Some of the most important results is that the lack of clarity of modernism’s definition to a lot of arab intellectuals and writers both advocates and opponents was the reason behind the arguments between these two parties ,plus the absence of objective bases of rationality , progression and enlightenment ideas for modernism’s emergence in the west led to the flounder of the Arabic modernists themselves ,and loss of their ability to identify themselves ,in addition ,the crisis of modernism was not a reception crisis as a result of the wide gap between the recipient and the creator as told ,but in fact ,it is a mystery and strangeness crisis which dominated the modernists’ production
