This paper examines the Arab population of the Upper Euphrates Island in Turkey, which is located in the fourth region described by geographers as the fairest region, namely the northern part of the Mesopotamian region between the two rivers i.e. the Tigris and Euphrates. That is because the Euphrates island was under the Persians and Byzantines before it came under the Islamic authority. The area controlled by each of them is proportional to its strength and the internal conditions that lie underneath it. As such, the island region was not stable in the pre-Islamic period because of the long conflicts between Byzantine and Persia in order to compete for control. The inhabitants of the island of Euphrates had to pay the price of instability due to the tumultuous political situation, the religious conflicts that have prevailed in the region because of the plurality of religions and differences between sects.
Muslims came to conquer the Euphrates island at a time when its inhabitants were suffering from psychological stress and social unrest caused by these political and religious struggles. The Muslim conquerors were the saviors of all ethnic and religious groups from the injustice and tyranny of Byzantium emperors and the Persians against their inhabitants. Moreover, the strategic position of the island, its location on the border between the Byzantine Empire and the areas conquered by the Muslims, led the Muslim Caliphs to govern its position. The role of the islanders was prominent in the operations of stationed at the borders defending the borders of the Islamic Caliphate. They contributed along with the people of the Levant in the campaigns in the lands and the sea and in the struggle against the Byzantines.
The economic aspects of the Euphrates Island flourished after the Islamic conquest because of the tolerance of Muslims to the people of the conquered lands and their good treatment of them. The cities of the island, such as Mosul, Nusaybin, Mardin, Ibn Omar Island, Raha and Raqqa, were famous for the nomads and geographers and described them with the best of the qualities. These cities became important economic, commercial, agricultural, industrial, and scientific and intellectual centers.
